EESC 435
Advanced Structure and Tectonics
The course uses modern and ancient mountain belts (e.g., Himalayan, Appalachian, Variscan) to highlight special topics in structural geology and plate tectonics. These include, but are not limited to, the interpretation of regional structures, mechanisms of deformation, geometric analysis of single and polyphase deformation, understanding the temporal evolution of orogenic belts, numerical modelling of heat and material transport, integration and application of geochemical and geochronological datasets, linking orogenic processes to metamorphism, sedimentary basins, magmatism, and critical mineral deposits, critical taper theory, channel flow dynamics, etc. Prerequisite: EESC 245. Three credits and lab.
