Racism and Health Equity

Three credits · Graduate

Racism is a structural determinant of health inequities. Current and historical patterns of white supremacy, slavery and colonization intersect with other forms of oppression to result in disproportionately high negative health outcomes for racialized communities. This course will provide an overview of the foundations of racism, core concepts, and different types and levels of racism and how they directly and indirectly impact health. The impact of specific social and structural factors on racialized groups and anti-racist strategies to dismantle racism at all levels will be core learning. Prerequisites: HEEQ 501, 502. Three credits.
