Invention of Democracy

(Same as Political Science M112B.) Lecture, three or four hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Designed for juniors/seniors. Democracy was invented in ancient Greece as political form grounded on equality before law, citizenship, and freedom. It came into existence as struggle by demos , people, aware of its excellence and proud of its power, kratos . It became only regime capable of including all members of community while disregarding wealth, status, and diverging interests. Examination of history and theory of ancient democracy.
