ANTH 117LF
Anthropology of Love and Friendship
Examines love and friendship as central anthropological and political concerns. Drawing on a broad range of ethnographic work, explores how intimacy, attachment, care, and obligation are shaped by kin relations, gender, sexuality, race, class, citizenship, and political economy. Emphasizing lived and embodied experience, the course examines how love and friendship are felt, cultivated, regulated, and contested. We also consider how affective ties generate ethical claims, social belonging, and possibilities for solidarity, refusal, and alternative forms of living.
