ANTH 170
The Evolutionary Anthropology of Family Life
Explores how evolutionary anthropologists study cultural diversity in human family life. Together we examine global variation in marriage systems, kinship and inheritance rules, parental investment, norms of sex and reproduction, and the role of extended kin. Each week pairs human examples with insights from non-human animals to ask what evolutionary theory reveals about the determinants of family structure, adaptation to local environments, and patterns of conflict and cooperation among family members.
