Theory and practice of lossy source coding, vector quantization, predictive and differential encoding, universal coding, source-channel coding, asymptotic theory, speech and image applications. Students that have taken 255BN cannot take 255B for credit. Recommended preparation: ECE 250, and 259A or 259AN. Prerequisites: ECE 255A with a grade of B– or above; graduate standing.
