Plant Nutrition credit:

2 Hours

Plants govern flows of energy, water, and minerals between the Earth’s atmosphere and geosphere through photosynthesis, transpiration, growth, and decay. Human management of plant systems harnesses and perturbs plant nutrient cycling with profound effects for population growth, nutrition, economic development, and environmental quality. This course examines the nutrients needed to grow healthy plants and why, and the influence of plant nutrition on ecosystems and society. Emphasis is placed on the role of mineral nutrients in plant functions like photosynthesis and stress tolerance. Information will be contextualized with practical agricultural and horticultural examples. 2 undergraduate hours. 2 graduate hours. Prerequisite: IB 103 or equivalent, or consent of instructor.
