Graduate Choral Diction credit:

2 Hours

Provides an overview of diction skills for the emerging choral conductor. Using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), students will learn accurate and fluent pronunciation in the five primary singing languages: Italian, German, French, Latin, and English. In addition, they will develop their ear to recognize and correct pronunciation issues in their own and others' singing. This course is not intended to replace semester-long diction courses for students in the Vocal Performance or Vocal Coaching and Accompanying degrees. Approved for both Letter and S/U grading. Prerequisite: Restricted to students enrolled in the MM Choral Music degree.
