CLAS 266
Classics and Cinema
From the sword-and-sandal spectacles of Hollywood's golden age to contemporary art films that whisper rather than roar, cinema has maintained an evolving, almost obsessive conversation with classical antiquity. This course explores how filmmakers have reimagined, interrogated, and sometimes reinvented Greece and Rome, examining not only historical epics and mythological adaptations but also films that transpose ancient narratives into radically different contexts.
