SPSS Software for Health Research
This course will offer a series of in-class demonstrations and hands-on practice in computer lab sessions where graduate students in the Health Sciences program, and in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology will learn various features of SPSS, a statistical software frequently used in health sciences research. Students will have hands-on experience using SPSS for data entry, data management, basic charts and graphs, and some commonly used statistical techniques (descriptive statistics, T-tests, ANOVA, linear and logistic regression). To demonstrate their competency, students will complete a final project incorporating the SPSS skills they have learned during the course to analyze and interpret results from a provided data set.
Prerequisites & course information
Prerequisite(s): An upper-level undergraduate statistics course. Note: This course is part of a suite of skills-focused short courses offered by the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology that build on content and theory delivered in full 3.0 cu graduate research methods courses. Completion of several of these 1.0 cu skills courses is not a suitable substitute for a single 3.0 cu research methods program requirement as they do not provide the theoretical or substantive depth expected at a graduate level.
