School, Community, and Family Partnerships

Undergraduate

This course will help teacher candidates understand how strong family and community engagement in children’s education both at school and at home makes a significant contribution to student achievement and well-being. Teacher candidates will learn about a wide range of research, policy documents, and initiatives in school, community, and family partnerships. With explorations of rich resources of family-school-community partnerships, and incorporating Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization principles, they will be engaged in activities to learn how to develop practical initiatives in meaningful and culturally responsive ways with a sense of a shared responsibility among school educators, families, and communities. Teacher candidates will learn to develop their intercultural competence, and interpersonal communication skills to become culturally responsive teachers.
